The 600-HP SUV Showdown: 10 Absurd Family Haulers, Head to Head
Ten sport utility vehicles with more horsepower than a NASCAR Cup car, built to carry groceries and a car seat. We lined them up by rated horsepower and let the spec sheets fight it out.

The table
How we ranked them: EVs and plug-in hybrids compete in the same bracket and get a badge, because a horsepower is a horsepower no matter what it drinks.

- * Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric: with Launch Control overboost; 844 hp otherwise.
- * Cadillac Escalade IQ: in Velocity Max mode; 680 hp otherwise.
- † Lamborghini Urus SE: 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) claim.
- ‡ BMW XM Label: 175 mph with M Driver's Package.
- — means we couldn't verify that number from a manufacturer or test source, so we left it blank instead of guessing.
The ground rules
- Production SUVs sold in the US, model year 2020 or newer, ranked by the maker's rated peak horsepower.
- EVs and plug-in hybrids compete in the same bracket and get a badge, because a horsepower is a horsepower no matter what it drinks.
- 0-60 is the manufacturer's claim, so every car is judged the same way. Independent instrumented results sit beside it, labeled, where Car and Driver or MotorTrend has tested that model.
- Price is base US MSRP for the model year shown, as published by the linked source. A dash means we couldn't verify the number, not that it's zero.
- Missed the cut: the Ferrari Purosangue (715 hp, per Car and Driver) finishes 11th by 2 hp. The Lotus Eletre R isn't offered in the US, so it wasn't eligible.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric
1,139 hp · 1,106 lb-ft · 0–60 2.4 sec (claim) · 162 mph · 5,960 lb · $163,000
Porsche's most powerful production car ever is a five-seat SUV, and it hides 295 of its horses behind a launch-control button like a parent hiding the good snacks. C/D got it to 60 in 2.1 seconds, which is quicker than your kids can ask "are we there yet."

Rivian R1S Quad
1,025 hp · 1,198 lb-ft · 0–60 2.6 sec (claim) · — mph · 6,824 lb · $121,990
One motor per wheel, seven seats, and enough torque to rotate the Earth slightly. MotorTrend called it the quickest SUV it had ever tested, which is a strange thing to say about a vehicle with a camp-kitchen option.

Tesla Model X Plaid
1,020 hp · — lb-ft · 0–60 2.5 sec (claim) · 163 mph · 5,248 lb · $99,990
Falcon-wing doors that open toward the parking-garage ceiling, a yoke-shaped question mark of a steering history, and 1,020 hp for the school run. Tesla doesn't publish a torque figure, so neither do we.

GMC Hummer EV SUV 3X
830 hp · 1,200 lb-ft · 0–60 3.5 sec (claim) · — mph · 8,660 lb · $104,650
It weighs 8,660 lb, it can drive diagonally in CrabWalk mode, and it still gets to 60 in about 3.5 seconds. Car and Driver gently suggests minding bridges rated for four tons. All that mass, and it seats five.

Lucid Gravity Grand Touring
828 hp · 909 lb-ft · 0–60 3.4 sec (claim) · 155 mph · 5,912 lb · $94,900
The sensible one, in the sense that it's the cheapest way on this list to put 828 hp in front of a third row. Only in this company does a $94,900, 5,912-lb SUV count as the bargain-bin choice.

Lamborghini Urus SE
789 hp · 701 lb-ft · 0–60 3.4 sec (claim) · 194 mph · 5,523 lb · $262,631
A raging bull that now plugs into the garage wall overnight like a phone. It's the fastest thing here at 194 mph, a speed at which the rear-seat juice box becomes a projectile.

Cadillac Escalade IQ
750 hp · 785 lb-ft · 0–60 4.7 sec (claim) · — mph · 9,120 lb · $127,405
Nine thousand pounds of electric limousine with a 'Velocity Max' button, because nothing says restraint like naming a mode after a Fast & Furious sequel. Heaviest car here by a full 460 lb.

BMW XM Label
738 hp · 738 lb-ft · 0–60 3.6 sec (claim) · 155 mph · 6,094 lb · $186,175
A 6,000-lb plug-in hybrid with a grille you can see from orbit. It makes exactly 738 hp and 738 lb-ft, the kind of symmetry a spreadsheet loves, and BMW limits it to 155 mph unless you pay for the M Driver's Package.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid
729 hp · 700 lb-ft · 0–60 3.5 sec (claim) · 183 mph · 5,664 lb · $158,995
The other Cayenne. A V8 and a battery team up for 729 hp, and it still finishes as only the second most powerful Cayenne on this list. Imagine being outgunned by your own sibling in the school pickup line.

Aston Martin DBX S
717 hp · 664 lb-ft · 0–60 3.1 sec (claim) · 193 mph · 4,940 lb · $270,500
The last pure gas engine standing in the top 10, with turbo tech borrowed from the Valhalla hypercar. Optional magnesium wheels save 42 lb of unsprung mass, so your Costco haul will corner beautifully.
